REFIT visits EcoBuild 2013

The EcoBuild 2013 exhibition in London was, once again, a very successful international event that attracted influential professionals in design and construction from around the world. With BRE, CIBSE and the Carbon Trust amongst the leading supporters, the exhibition hosted over 1,500 organisations covering a wide range of sustainable construction. The REFIT team was there to visit the numerous stands presenting the state of the art in domestic control systems and in refurbishment oriented products. The seminar sessions regarding the refurbishment and retrofit of the UKs building stock included speeches from experts in the field that shared their views on the Green deal challenges and the state of knowledge in regards to traditional buildings. The importance of retrofitting the housing stock was highlighted by a report presented by the Technology Strategy Board which proved that refurbishing can lead to major reductions in CO2 emissions and an improved domestic environment for the occupants (the report can be found at http://www.retrofitanalysis.org). In addition, the BIM seminars proved to be very useful as they discussed the potential contribution of the software in theory and in practice in the field.
